The first event from the series European Democracy Weekend took place on the 11th and 12th of June 2025 in Serifos Island, Greece.

This event marked the beginning of the Democratic Engagement and Education Phase. The objectives of the event were to encourage active participation in democratic processes among Greek citizens through workshops, debates, and speaker sessions. The event aimed to create a shared understanding of democratic principles and voting practices, with a focus on Greece’s role in the broader European context. It provided participants with opportunities to learn about Greek democratic institutions and civic responsibilities, while promoting dialogue and mutual learning among participants from diverse backgrounds.

Over two days, participants took part in interactive workshops and discussions focusing on democratic values, the importance of voting, and the role of active citizenship in strengthening European democracy. Despite adverse weather conditions, the program adapted successfully, maintaining a strong focus on dialogue, learning, and exchange.

Cultural activities, a guided tour, and networking moments enriched the experience, allowing attendees to connect, share best practices, and reflect on the unique challenges faced by island communities. The event marked an important step in building a more inclusive and participatory democratic culture across Europe and set the tone for the upcoming events in the series.
